Do you need to turn off text notifications for one particular person or group on your iPhone? Here’s how to do it.
If there’s a contact in your Messages app you do not wish to get notifications for, an in-built feature allows you to mute notifications for the contact. The contact won’t be notified that you muted them, and you can steer clear of a crowded Notification Center.
Let’s take a look at the steps required to mute a text conversation on an iPhone.
Hide Alerts in the Messages App to Mute People
When you mute a contact in the Messages app, you won’t get any notifications from them until you unmute them again. You still be able to see their texts when you open the app though.
Here’s how to turn off text message notifications for a contact in the Messages app:
- Open the Messages app and tap to open the contact you want to mute.
- Tap on the contact’s icon at the top of the screen.
- Turn on the toggle for Hide Alerts. You will see a bell icon with a slash on it to show a contact has been muted.
Swipe to Mute Even Quicker
Here’s another method to turn off notifications for the contact:
- Open the Messages app and find the contact in your list of recent conversations.
- Swipe left on the contact you want to mute.
- Tap on the bell icon. You will notice the same bell con appear next to the conversation to indicate that it has been muted.
To unmute a contact, you can swipe on a muted conversation and tap the bell icon again, or you can tap on the contact’s icon as mentioned above and turn off the toggle for Hide Alerts.
How to Mute All Notifications From Someone
If you want to mute all notifications, messages, and calls temporarily, you can go to Focus in Settings and turn on Do Not Disturb. Then choose to let particular contact notifications come through if required.
Don’t want to receive calls or messages from a contact at all? The best way is to block them from your iPhone.
You Won’t Have to See Unwanted Text Notifications Anymore
While you may have to block contacts if you don’t wish to receive any messages or calls from them, the Hide Alerts feature in the Messages app is an easy way to ensure you don’t get any unwanted text message notifications.
All you have to do is turn on the toggle for a contact or swipe and tap on the bell icon to mute them. If you want to stop incoming call and text notifications for everyone, put your iPhone in Focus or Do Not Disturb mode instead.
